Neil Connolly

Neil Connolly, President
Neil has been a resident of Pomona since 1963 and began visiting the Park in the 1990s. He has been a more frequent visitor since 2003 as an avid mountain biker. He has BS in Biology with a minor in Zoology from Cal Poly Pomona. In addition to his work with the Chino Hills State Park Interpretive Association, he is also a board member for the Mojave River Natural History Association at Lake Silverwood and is in his second term with the California League of Park Associations. Since the 1980s Neil has helped conduct the bald eagle census, so brings his expertise on wildlife to CHSPIA. He hopes to enlighten the public about the environment and teach visitors why open space is important and why it needs to be preserved.

Melanie Schlotterbeck

Melanie Schlotterbeck, Secretary/Treasurer
Melanie Schlotterbeck has been working on the preservation and protection of Chino Hills State Park since she was a toddler. Throughout high school she arranged Park clean ups and hikes.  Her love of the Park was symbolized by a bachelor’s degree in Geography. After a short stint as an intern with the National Park Service, she went on to receive her master’s degree in Environmental Science. For her master’s project she mapped species diversity of mammals and reptiles for the entire Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor. Today, she remains committed to the protection of critical lands in Wildlife Corridor. As a Secretary/Treasurer of the Interpretive Association, Melanie hopes to encourage understanding the resources, promote opportunities within the Park and teach the public about the uniqueness of Chino Hills State Park.

Sherman Poole, Cooperating Association Liaison
Sherm Poole grew up in Fontana, California and attended Cal State Northridge. He decided he wanted to become a state park ranger after serving as a deck hand on a boat at Lake Ellsinore for three years. Andre Ramos - another state park ranger in the district - was his mentor. Sherm has been with the Department since 1983.

Tom Greene

Tom Greene, Board member
Tom Greene, originally from Illinois, is a 14 year resident of Chino Hills. He has been an active user of the State Park since 1992. Beginning in 1999, Tom became associated with the volunteer program working on habitat enhancement projects for the Natural History Unit. These projects include working on native plant propagation in the nursery and also going out into the field and taking part in projects to return the plants to their native habitat. Tom also leads interpretive hikes throughout the State Park in which he helps identify native flora and fauna and points out the unique features of the various natural communities within the Park. Tom is also a member of the Wildlife Corridor Conservation Authority Advisory Committee, which helps in the preservation, conservation and environmental protection of the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor.

Claire Schlotterbeck

Claire Schlotterbeck, Board member
Claire Schlotterbeck has lived most of her life in Southern California. She has been a resident of Brea since 1978 and a long time advocate for Chino Hills State Park and the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor. Claire currently serves as Executive Director of Hills For Everyone, the non-profit group that founded Chino Hills State Park. Claire, like Tom, is an appointed member of the Wildlife Corridor Conservation Authority Advisory Committee, a joint powers authority that is working to connect the remaining natural lands in the Puente-Chino Hills.

Janayah Tennison, Board member
Originally from the Midwest and has been a resident of California since 2006. After moving to California, where space is at a premium, from a state where there is plenty of open green spaces. Janayah felt it was important to preserve the parks of California for future generations. She hopes to be able to promote park awareness and get others more involved in protecting our parks.
